What it is about
After a mysterious cosmic event rips Oak Street from suburbia and transports their neighborhood to someplace unknown, the Platt family soon discovers that their very survival depends on them sticking together as they navigate their now unrecognizable surroundings.
What to expect
David Robert Mitchell shifts from suburban dread to full-blown creature-feature survival. A cosmic event dumps an entire street into a hostile wilderness, and the Platt family’s ordeal plays out across 100 minutes of English-language sci-fi with Chinese subtitles. The audience score sits at 6.4 from 385 votes—serviceable, not spectacular—suggesting the 1980s-nostalgia tone and family dynamics land for some while the pacing loses others. Rated IIA. Playing at 16 cinemas across 12 districts this week, with 148 screenings; Dolby Atmos is the format to pick if you want the creature soundscape to do the heavy lifting. Tickets from HK$60.

What viewers said
When it comes to summertime movies, many viewers expect fun thrill rides, escapist fare at its best. At the same time, though, as the summer movie season winds down, expectations tend to lower by the time August rolls around, when the dregs of its remaining releases are unceremoniously rolled out. But, every so often, audiences are in for an unexpected nifty little treat when a sleeper offering hits theaters. […]

Ok, so the whole premiss is fairly flawed. The idea that dinosaurs could roam the streets of an American town without the military - normally first on the scene if you drop your ice cream - taking centre stage with their missiles, tanks and helicopters is even more far-fetched than the idea that velociraptors and Tyrannosaurs might be gobbling up suburban citizens. But it's true! […]
