Privacy policy
What this site records and what it does not: no accounts, no analytics, no cookies of our own. How Google AdSense uses cookies for advertising, and how to…
The Grand Cinema is a listings site. You can read every page on it without an account, and we never take a booking or a payment — every booking link hands you to the cinema's own site, and whatever you do there is between you and them.
This page says exactly what happens to data when you visit. Last updated 1 September 2026.
What we do not collect
We do not ask for your name, your email or your phone number. There is nothing to sign up for. We run no analytics package — no Google Analytics, no Plausible, nothing of that kind — and this site sets no cookies of its own.
What your browser stores
One thing: whether you chose the light or dark theme, kept in your browser's local storage under the key theme. It never reaches our server, and clearing your browsing data removes it.
What our server records
- Ordinary web server logs. Like every site, our host records the IP address, browser user-agent, time and page requested. They are used to keep the site running and to spot abuse, and they are not joined to anything else.
- Which booking links get clicked. When you click through to a cinema we record the screening, the cinema, the film, the price shown, the language you were reading in, the page you clicked from and the time. No identifier for you is stored — not your IP, not a cookie, not an account. We cannot tell one visitor's clicks from another's, and we built it that way deliberately: it tells us which listings people find useful, which is all we wanted to know.
Advertising
This site carries advertising from Google AdSense, and that is the part of this page that matters most.
Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visit to our sites and other sites on the internet. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings, or opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info. Google's own explanation is at How Google uses information from sites that use our services.
We do not control those cookies, we cannot read them, and we receive no personal information from them — only aggregate reports of how the ads performed.
Other services a page may reach
Loading a page can cause your browser to contact these third parties, which means they see your IP address:
- Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com) — the typefaces the site is set in.
- OpenStreetMap — the map on a cinema page is an embedded OpenStreetMap frame, so it loads when that page does.
- YouTube — trailers use the youtube-nocookie.com player and load only after you press play, so nothing reaches YouTube until you ask for it.
- Our CDN and host — which serve the pages themselves.
Links out to Google Maps, Apple Maps and the cinemas' booking pages are ordinary links: nothing is sent until you click one, and then the destination's own policy applies.
Affiliate links
Some links are sponsored or affiliate links, and we may earn a commission if you subscribe or buy through them, at no extra cost to you. Editorial content is written independently of whether such links are present, and where a page carries them the footer says so.
Children
This is a general-audience listings site. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children included — there is no mechanism on the site through which you could give us any.
Your rights, and how to exercise them
Hong Kong's Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance gives you the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, and to have it erased. In practice we hold none that identifies you, so the honest answer to a request will usually be that there is nothing to show — but ask and we will tell you plainly. Write to [email protected].
If you are in the UK or the EEA and want ad personalisation turned off, the Google Ads Settings link above is the effective control, because those cookies are Google's rather than ours.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top. We have no mailing list to announce it on, which is rather the point.
