What it is about
What to expect
Paweł Pawlikowski shoots in black and white, and the choice is not decorative: it pulls the colour out of a country already stripped to its bones. Thomas Mann and his daughter Erika cross from Frankfurt to Weimar in 1949, two people in a car watching one Germany become two. The camera stays close to faces — Sandra Hüller, Hanns Zischler — and lets the silences between them do the work. At 82 minutes the movie does not sprawl; it sits with you. The Polish-language track carries English and Chinese subtitles. It opens in Hong Kong on 17 September 2026 in what looks like a small art-house run, so check listings early. No certificate has been posted yet.
