What it is about
What to expect
Anna Rodgers (with Rosa von Praunheim) traces a bond that began with surrogacy and turned into something rarer: an Irish mother driving into wartime Ukraine to evacuate the woman who carried her twins and that woman’s three children. The 87-minute documentary now follows the two families as they squeeze into a cottage in rural Wicklow and try to make a blended household work. Rodgers keeps the camera close on the daily negotiations — space, language, grief, gratitude — rather than on the drama of the border crossing itself. The result is a quiet, sometimes uneasy look at what “family” means when the law and the heart disagree. Screening as part of HKLGFF 2026, in English with English and Chinese subtitles. Tickets are limited to the festival programme.
