The verdict

There are not yet enough audience votes to give this a reliable score. It is not currently playing in Hong Kong cinemas. 110 minutes.

What it is about

Bucolic Nagi is home to scenic landscapes, a unique art museum, and a Self-Defense Force base. One day, Yuri travels to Nagi to model for her friend Yoriko, a wood carving artist. As wood shavings fall to ground, the two gradually open up about past trauma. Meanwhile, two teenage boys grapple with anxiety and restlessness of growth, ultimately taking a bold step forward. Their actions might seem rash and reckless, but who wouldn't yearn for that fearless impulse of youth? As the boys bravely embrace the future, the two women also gradually find their way forward.

What to expect

Koji Fukada's latest is a two-track drama set in Nagi, a town whose scenic calm sits alongside a Self-Defense Force base. One thread follows Yuri (Takako Matsu) as she models for her wood-carving friend Yoriko (Shizuka Ishibashi), the two women slowly working their way into old wounds; the other follows two teenage boys acting on an impulse they can't quite explain. The movie doesn't force the stories together, and that restraint is the point — it's more interested in how people of different ages find the nerve to move than in tidy resolutions. At 110 unhurried minutes, it suits viewers who can sit with silence. Opens in Hong Kong on September 17, 2026, in Japanese with English and Chinese subtitles. It is not a wide release, so check listings before heading out.
