The verdict
Audiences rate it 6.8 out of 10 on TMDB across 239 votes — a solid score. It is not currently playing in Hong Kong cinemas. Category III · 109 minutes.
What it is about
See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil – unfortunately that does not stop evilness from existing. Eyup’s boss killed a man in a car accident and paid him to be the scapegoat. While Eyup is in prison, his son gets into trouble and his wife becomes the politician’s mistress. How does Eyup family get broken, when the crime is not even committed by him?
What to expect
Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s drama opens with a family already buckling: the father takes the rap for his boss’s hit-and-run, and while he serves the sentence his wife and son make their own ruinous choices. Ceylan shoots it in muted, overcast tones and holds shots long enough that you feel the weight of what is not being said. The 109-minute runtime is all slow accumulation — glances, withheld confessions, the sound of a phone ringing in an empty flat — so it lands best if you have the patience for a movie that treats silence as a dramatic event. In Hong Kong it carries a Category III certificate (18+ only) and plays in Turkish with English and Chinese subtitles. Audiences who logged a rating gave it 6.8 out of 10, which tallies with a picture that divides casual viewers but sticks with art-house regulars. It opens 17 September 2026.
