What it is about
Once hailed as the strongest hitman in history, Taro Sakamoto retired from the underworld after falling in love. After getting married and having a child, he now runs a convenience store—and has put on some weight!
However, Sakamoto is suddenly placed on a bounty of 1 billion yen, and assassins from all sides swarm in. To protect his beloved family and their peaceful everyday life, he must stick to his no-killing code and fight a life-or-death battle against his enemies!
What to expect
Taro Sakamoto was the underworld's deadliest hitman until he fell in love, got married, had a kid, and opened a convenience store — and put on a few kilos. Now a billion-yen bounty has every assassin in the business turning up at his shop. The live-action SAKAMOTO DAYS plays that collision for slapstick as much as for fights: the choreography is deliberately over-the-top, and the humour is dry enough to undercut the violence without softening it. The story stays focused on protecting a family rather than settling scores, which gives the action a warmer centre than most hitman comedies manage. Ren Meguro leads, with Fumiya Takahashi and Aya Ueto in support. Rated IIB, 129 minutes, Japanese with English and Chinese subtitles. It is on 15 screenings across five cinemas and five districts this week; tickets from HK$55. With a release that compact, a weekday slot will give you the best pick of seats.
