Sondheim and Furth's musical is filmed live at the Hudson Theatre, with Jonathan Groff, Lindsay Mendez, and Daniel Radcliffe leading the cast. The story tracks Broadway composer Franklin Shepard in reverse, from hollow Hollywood success back to the friendships he shed along the way. At 145 minutes it is a full evening, and the single Hong Kong screening — IIB, English with Chinese subtitles, $220 — makes this a blink-and-you'll-miss-it event. The reverse chronology gives even the brighter numbers a sting, because you already know what gets lost.
