The verdict

Audiences rate it 7.5 out of 10 on TMDB across 3,360 votes — a strong score. It is not currently playing in Hong Kong cinemas. Category IIB · 115 minutes.

What it is about

Oskar, a bullied 12-year-old, strikes up a friendship with his new neighbor, the mysterious and moody Eli. She is full of contradictions; her wise look, her strange smell, that fact that she is wearing such thin clothing, her neglected and skinny, yet so beautiful, appearance. Initially reserved, a sweet romance blossoms between them. But a dark, macabre secret revealing Eli’s connection to a string of bloody local murders threatens everything.

What to expect

Tomas Alfredson’s Swedish vampire story pairs a bullied 12-year-old with a neighbour who has been 12 for two centuries. The bond that forms between Oskar and Eli is tender and strange in equal measure—less a conventional romance than two lonely people recognising something in each other. The violence, when it comes, is blunt and matter-of-fact rather than stylish, and the movie’s real weight sits in the silences and the snow-covered Stockholm suburb where everything plays out. At 115 minutes it asks for patience, and the IIB certificate reflects a handful of bloody moments that earn the rating. Swedish dialogue, with English and Traditional Chinese subtitles. Opens in Hong Kong on 17 September 2026. Audience scores currently sit at 7.5 from over 3,300 votes.

What viewers said

This is a beautiful story of a young girl who happens to be a blood sticking vampire, and as we see her story progress, you can't help but feel for the young Miss. I enjoyed this probably more than most as I'm a fan of all things Horror and Sci-fi. The atmosphere and setting make this film quite a thrill for the senses.
