What it is about

Four hectic days unfold as a family reunites after the death of the world’s most troublesome big brother.

What to expect

A funeral brings a family back together, and the dead man was, by all accounts, a nightmare. Over four days, old resentments surface and one relative proposes shrinking the deceased to a portable size — a literal attempt to keep him in check, even in death. Director Ryota Nakano keeps the tone dry and unruly rather than sentimental; the absurd premise is played straight, which makes the family friction land harder. Ko Shibasaki, Hikari Mitsushima and Joe Odagiri lead the ensemble. The movie is in Japanese with English and Chinese subtitles, runs 127 minutes, and is rated Category I. It opens 27 August 2026 at two cinemas across two districts, with 16 screenings in the next seven days. Tickets from HK$60.
