Bai Xue directs Michelle Yeoh as a seventy-year-old who refuses to slow down, dragging a directionless young speedcuber (Liu Haoran) into the niche, stopwatch-governed world of competitive Rubik’s Cube. The movie gets its energy from the friction between her stubbornness and his inertia, and from the oddball rituals of the subculture itself—less a sports movie than a dry comedy about two people who find a reason to move at the same pace. It runs 107 minutes, is rated IIA, and plays in its original Chinese with English and Chinese subtitles. Over the next week there are 25 screenings across five cinemas in four districts, with tickets from HK$55.
