Audiences rate it 7.6 out of 10 on TMDB across 68 votes — a strong score. It is not currently playing in Hong Kong cinemas. 100 minutes.
What it is about
Samuel Paty, a middle school teacher, uses cartoons with caricatures of the Prophet to teach freedom of expression. When a girl falsely claims she was expelled for objecting, her outraged father’s viral reaction video ignites a firestorm. While tensions escalate, an Islamist activist leaks the teacher’s personal information, and a Chechen jihadist follows the online trail to the school gates. In the aftermath, conflicting voices confront how rumour and collective inaction can lead to irreparable harm.
What to expect
Vincent Garenq directs this French drama about the events leading up to the murder of Samuel Paty, a teacher who showed caricatures of the Prophet in a class on free expression. The movie traces how a student’s false claim, amplified by a parent’s viral video and an Islamist activist’s doxing, steered a jihadist to the school gates. At 100 minutes, it is a procedural account of escalating rumour rather than a suspense piece. In French with English subtitles. Opens in Hong Kong on 10 October 2026. The site’s audience score is 7.6 from 68 votes.
