The verdict

There are not yet enough audience votes to give this a reliable score. It is not currently playing in Hong Kong cinemas. 83 minutes.

What it is about

After ten years as an undocumented immigrant, Chuy is deported and must return to the small fishing village in Sinaloa where he was born. Drugs and the cartel have taken over the place, and everyone endures life accustomed to violence. Chano, his first love, is now a feared hitman. In the midst of this hostile environment, their romance rekindles, and Chuy must choose between Chano and the life he truly wishes to live.

What to expect

Deported after a decade in the US, Chuy returns to his Sinaloa fishing village to find it gutted by the cartel — and his first love, Chano, working as a hitman. Director Indra Villaseñor Amador shoots this reunion in a register closer to a sun-bleached hangout than a crime thriller: long takes, ambient sound, the weight of what goes unsaid. At 83 minutes the movie never overstays its welcome, though its restraint will frustrate anyone waiting for a conventional payoff. The Spanish-language drama screens with English subtitles as a Hong Kong premiere in the 2026 Hong Kong Lesbian & Gay Film Festival. Not suitable for children. Check the festival programme for venues and times.
