What it is about

After 14 years, Shinji wakes on the battleship AAA Wunder. It belongs to WILLE, an anti-NERV organization founded by former NERV members. Shinji hears Rei's voice coming from EVA Mark.09, sent to rescue her, so he leaves Wunder and heads to NERV. Kaworu Nagisa shows Shinji the transformed land. He learns that saving Rei triggered the Near Third Impact that caused catastrophic damage to Earth.

What to expect

Hideaki Anno’s third Rebuild movie opens 14 years after Shinji last set foot in an Eva. He wakes on the AAA Wunder, a battleship run by WILLE — former NERV members who now treat him as a walking warhead. When EVA Mark.09 arrives carrying Rei’s voice, Shinji leaves with it, only to learn from Kaworu Nagisa that his earlier rescue attempt triggered the Near Third Impact and left the Earth a red wasteland. The 95-minute runtime is dense with shifting allegiances and landscape-scale guilt, and the movie assumes you already know who these people are. Rated IIB in Hong Kong, it screens with English and Chinese subtitles. The release is limited, so check listings before heading out.
