Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 Thrice Upon A Time

Hideaki Anno closes the Rebuild of Evangelion with a 154-minute finale that moves between a ticking-clock operation in Paris and a wandering, near-wordless trek across Japan. Misato’s WILLE crew has 720 seconds to restore a core-ized city while Mari’s upgraded Unit-08 holds off a wave of NERV EVAs; the action is dense and mechanical, cut against long stretches of Shinji, Asuka, and Rei drifting through a depopulated landscape. The split structure means the movie spends as much time in stillness as in combat, and anyone who has not seen the preceding three Rebuild entries will be completely lost.
