What to expect
Claire Simon’s 120-minute documentary plants itself inside the entrance exams for La Fémis, the Paris film school whose alumni include a sizeable chunk of French cinema. The camera stays close to the candidates as they pitch, write, and defend themselves in front of a panel that includes working directors Alain Bergala, Laetitia Masson, Patricia Mazuy, and Sophie Fillières. Simon’s approach is unhurried and fly-on-the-wall; the movie is more interested in the texture of those encounters—the nervous pauses, the careful answers, the moments a candidate’s thinking suddenly becomes visible—than in who gets in. It opens in Hong Kong on 10 October 2026 as a limited release. English subtitles only, no age restriction, standard format.
