The verdict

There are not yet enough audience votes to give this a reliable score. It is not currently playing in Hong Kong cinemas. 105 minutes.

What it is about

In northern France, Gabin, the youngest of the Jourdel family, finds himself destined to take over his father's butcher shop. Тorn between family loyalty and a desire to break free, his dreams lie elsewhere: to train a contest cow, to become a dog breeder, and to save his mother’s farm from financial ruin. Spanning a decade, Gabin immerses us in this young boy’s world, following his journey from the age of 8 to 18.

The film will be introduced by the "Directors' Fortnight's Artistic Director Julien Rejl  on 1 DECEMBER at MOViE MOViE Pacific Place.

What to expect

Maxence Voiseux spent a decade filming Gabin Jourdel, from the time he was eight until he turned eighteen. The camera stays at his level, inside a family in northern France where the assumption is that Gabin will one day run his father’s butcher shop. He is more interested in training a contest cow, breeding dogs, and keeping his mother’s farm afloat. The movie does not push a thesis; it watches the gap between what is expected of him and what he actually does, and it leaves the audience to sit with that. It screens in French with English subtitles as part of FCP 2026. On 1 December at MOViE MOViE Pacific Place, Directors’ Fortnight Artistic Director Julien Rejl will introduce the screening. Runtime is 105 minutes.
