What it is about
Based on real events, the film follows news anchor Chris Hansen (Pattinson) and his team as they pioneer a radical new format: posing as underage teens in online chat rooms, they lure suspected child predators to a suburban home wired with hidden cameras. When the unsuspecting targets walk into the trap, Hansen bursts in with a camera crew and a police escort to confront them on the spot — all for live television.
The formula is explosive. Ratings soar. But the deeper Chris and his crew fall into the pursuit of viewers, fame, and "justice," the harder it becomes to tell where journalism ends and vigilantism begins — until the sting operations themselves spiral into a vortex they can no longer control.

A true-crime story this inherently bizarre should not require much embellishment, yet *Primetime* spends so much energy dressing itself up that the actual story gets buried underneath the filmmaking.
