The verdict

Audiences rate it 7.0 out of 10 on TMDB across 42 votes — a solid score. It is not currently playing in Hong Kong cinemas. Category I · 75 minutes.

What it is about

McDull is not the brightest kid on the block, but he continuously tries to do his best to please his mother. Still it seems he may not be destined for great things like she wishes, but McDull strives to try anyway.

What to expect

McDull is a piglet who is not especially bright, but he tries—mostly to make his mother proud, mostly without success. The movie follows his small, ordinary failures with a dry Cantonese humour and a matter-of-fact sadness that never tips into sentimentality. The hand-drawn style is loose and unpolished, which suits the story’s modesty. This is a festival revival, not a new release, so the room is likely to be quieter and more attentive than a Saturday-morning crowd. 75 minutes, Category I, Cantonese with English and Chinese subtitles. Audience score sits at 7.0 from 42 votes.
