What to expect
Rosamund Pike carries this National Theatre production alone, playing a woman whose life unravels after a minor bureaucratic slip. Director Justin Martin keeps the action in real time, which gives the piece a tightening, almost procedural pressure — less a showcase for theatrical flourishes than a sustained close-up on a person running out of ways to hold herself together. The NT Live recording preserves the original English performance with Chinese subtitles. At 116 minutes and rated IIB, it is a lean, adult-oriented drama that leans entirely on Pike’s ability to hold the screen. This week it plays just two sessions across two cinemas; tickets start at HK$230.
