The verdict

There are not yet enough audience votes to give this a reliable score. It is not currently playing in Hong Kong cinemas. 116 minutes.

What it is about

"Amelie" is a fanciful comedy about a young woman whose purpose in life is to orchestrate the lives of people around her in order to fix up their troubles. This leads her to invent all sorts of ideas to intervene in people's existence and to create a world of her own making. Her mission is rudely interrupted when she meets a strange, off-beat young man, Nino Quincampoix. Although fascinated by him, she plays hide-and-seek games, afraid of really opening up to this appealing young man.

Q/A with the director Jean-Pierre Jeunet after the screening on 17 NOVEMBER at PREMIERE ELEMENTS.

What to expect

Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s 2001 comedy returns to Hong Kong screens for a limited run. Audrey Tautou plays a young woman who engineers small, secret acts of kindness for the strangers around her, only to find herself dodging a real connection when she meets a peculiar young man named Nino. The movie leans on saturated colours, tight wide-angle compositions, and a restless, detail-hoarding camera—a look that has aged into something closer to a storybook than a postcard. It will suit viewers who like their romance delivered with practical jokes and a side of Parisian whimsy. The 10 October release includes a 17 November screening at PREMIERE ELEMENTS with a post-movie Q&A featuring Jeunet. Runtime is 116 minutes. French dialogue, English subtitles only.
