The Grand Cinema Every movie in Hong Kong cinemas, reviewed

About

What this site is, where the data comes from, and what we do and do not know.

The Grand Cinema is an independent guide to the movies playing in Hong Kong cinemas. For every movie on release here you will find what it is, who made it, how audiences have rated it, and where it is showing this week — with the ticket prices the cinemas are actually charging.

Where the information comes from

Showtimes, prices, formats and subtitle information are collected directly from the cinema circuits several times a day. Where a price is shown it is the price that circuit published for that screening.

Movie metadata — cast, crew, trailers, synopses and audience ratings — comes from TMDB. Streaming availability comes from JustWatch by way of TMDB. This site uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.

How we write about movies

Two different things appear on a movie page and they are labelled differently on purpose.

The verdict is assembled from data: the audience score and how many votes it rests on, how widely the movie is playing, in how many districts, from what price. Where there are too few ratings to be meaningful, it says so rather than manufacturing a number.

The What to expect section is written by AI from those same facts and is marked as such wherever it appears. It is not a review by someone who has seen the movie, and we do not present it as one. Where you see a rating on this site, it came from audiences, not from us.

What we are not

We are independent and not affiliated with any cinema or circuit. The Grand Cinema at Elements closed in 2019; this site is not the venue, its successor, or connected to its former operators.

Showtimes and prices change, and cinemas occasionally cancel screenings after publishing them. Always check with the cinema before travelling.
