The verdict

There are not yet enough audience votes to give this a reliable score. It is not currently playing in Hong Kong cinemas. 137 minutes.

What it is about

The peaceful life of Violette, a cemetery caretaker in a small town in Burgundy, is disrupted when a local police chief’s arrival uncovers long-buried secrets, pushing her to face her past to take another chance on life and love.

Q/A with the director Jean-Pierre Jeunet after the screening on 18 NOVEMBER at PREMIERE ELEMENTS.

What to expect

Jean-Pierre Jeunet trades the whimsical Paris of Amélie for a small-town Burgundy cemetery, where Violette (Leila Bekhti) keeps the graves and her own counsel. When a police chief (Matthias Schoenaerts) arrives, the quiet order she has built begins to crack, forcing her to reckon with what she has buried. The 137-minute runtime gives the cast — including Anouk Grinberg and Melvil Poupaud — room to work in a register that is more subdued than Jeunet’s earlier movies, but his eye for texture and odd, tender detail is still there.

This is a French Cinepanorama title, opening in Hong Kong on 10 October 2026. French dialogue, English subtitles. The 18 November screening at PREMIERE ELEMENTS is followed by a Q&A with Jeunet.
