What it is about
In the French countryside, wild boars ravaging crops spark an open war between farmers and members of a hunting club. Brun, a bankrupt farmer, struggles to keep his farm afloat. When the club’s president pushes him to his limits, Brun shoots him and disappears. A year later, Fulda, a volatile police officer, leads the investigation. Still struggling after a recent breakup, and as wild boars proliferate across the region, he is pushed to the brink of sanity.
The film will be introduced by the "Directors' Fortnight's Artistic Director Julien Rejl on 28 NOVEMBER at PREMIERE ELEMENTS.
What to expect
Sarah Arnold’s debut follows two men circling the same crisis a year apart. Brun is a farmer losing his land; when the president of the local hunting club pushes him too far, Brun shoots him and disappears. Fulda, the policeman assigned to the case a year later, is still raw from a breakup and increasingly unmoored as wild boars continue to tear through the region. The movie keeps its violence mostly offscreen and its tone dry, letting the boar infestation work as both a practical problem and a quiet mirror for the characters’ desperation. It is screening in French with English subtitles. The 28 November show at PREMIERE ELEMENTS will be introduced by Directors’ Fortnight artistic director Julien Rejl. Runtime is 95 minutes; certificate is not yet listed, so check with the cinema if that matters.
