The verdict

Audiences rate it 7.8 out of 10 on TMDB across 66 votes — a strong score. It is not currently playing in Hong Kong cinemas. 95 minutes.

What it is about

High school teacher Cheng looks back to his repressed childhood memories, as he finds an anonymous suicide note in the classroom. He strives hard to prevent another tragedy from happening, meanwhile facing a series of family problems, his wife is divorcing him, and his father is dying.

What to expect

Nick Cheuk’s debut keeps its worst moments off-screen, which is what makes the ones it shows so bruising. A teacher finds a student’s suicide note and spends the rest of the movie trying to work out who wrote it, while his own childhood — the beatings, the favouritism, the silences — pushes back in. At 95 minutes it doesn’t overstay, and the 7.8 from 66 audience votes suggests it lands with the people who seek this kind of thing out. Cantonese with English and Chinese subtitles. Part of the bc30 x APAAA series; opens Hong Kong 16 November 2026.
