What it is about
Cheung Ka-on lives with his mother in Tin Shui Wai. Growing up in a single-parent family, he and his mother hold dear to each other. He is obedient to his mother, yet his grades aren’t outstanding, living an ordinary life. Meanwhile, although Mrs. Cheung is a single mother, she never complains but works hard to raise her son. When she was young, she used her hard-earned money to send her two younger brothers to study abroad. Although she didn't have much contact with her brothers, they shared a deep bond……
What to expect
Ann Hui’s 91-minute drama follows a Tin Shui Wai teenager and his mother through the rhythms of school, work, and shared meals. The movie draws its weight from small exchanges and the unspoken history of a woman who once put her younger brothers through school abroad. Paw Hee Ching and Chan Lai Wun lead a cast that plays it close to the bone, and Hui keeps the camera at a respectful distance, letting routine carry the emotion. The pacing is unhurried and the register resolutely low-key—this is a movie for viewers who trust observation over exposition. Rated I, it opens across Hong Kong on 17 September 2026 with English and Chinese subtitles.
