What it is about
Carlobianchi and Doriano, two broke, heavy-drinking 50-somethings, get completely drunk on their way to meet an old friend. They cross paths with Giulio, a shy architecture graduate adrift in life. What starts as "one final drink" quickly spirals into a chaotic road trip across the Venetian plains. Packed with bad advice, reckless accidents, and brutal hangovers, this unexpected friendship threatens to throw the young man's future completely off track.

What to expect
Francesco Sossai strands a shy architecture graduate between two pickled fifty-somethings on a bender across the Venetian plains, and the result is a road movie that earns its hangovers. Carlobianchi and Doriano are broke, loud, and incapable of taking anything seriously, least of all the young man they drag along for what they keep calling one last drink. The comedy comes from how little they learn and how much damage they do, but the movie never lets Giulio become a mere punchline — his drift feels real, and Filippo Scotti plays it with a quiet panic that keeps the chaos grounded. It won eight David di Donatello awards, including Best Movie, and screened in Un Certain Regard at Cannes. Italian with English subtitles. 100 minutes. Opening in Hong Kong on 12 October, likely at arthouse venues rather than multiplexes — check listings for session times and the local certificate.

What viewers said
When a filmmaker’s reach exceeds his grasp, that’s when you end up with movies like this work of pretentious existential nonsense from writer-director Francesco Sossai. For roughly the first 45 minutes of this aimlessly meandering road trip/buddy flick, barflies Carlobianchi (Sergio Romano) and Doriano (Pierpaolo Capovilla) go in search of the evening’s “one last drink” at various roadside watering holes across northeastern Italy.
