The verdict
There are not yet enough audience votes to give this a reliable score. It is not currently playing in Hong Kong cinemas. 96 minutes.
What it is about
15-year-old Emma becomes pregnant after a rape. Defying her oppressive rural Protestant community, Emma embarks on a journey of self-determination, transforming her trauma into a catalyst for emancipation while confronting the moral hypocrisy of her village and the lingering shadows of World War II.
What to expect
Marie-Elsa Sgualdo’s debut keeps its focus tight on a 15-year-old girl who refuses the role her village has written for her. Lila Gueneau plays Emma with a guarded stillness that makes the moments of defiance land harder — a slammed door, a held gaze, a decision to keep the pregnancy. The rural Protestant setting is rendered in muted earth tones and cramped interiors; the war’s aftermath hangs in the air more as inherited silence than as plot point. At 96 minutes the movie doesn’t rush, but it doesn’t linger either — it moves at the pace of someone learning to trust her own instincts. Grégoire Colin and Thomas Doret fill out a community that feels lived-in rather than villainous, which makes the hypocrisy cut deeper. French with English subtitles. Opens Hong Kong 10 October 2026 under the FCP 2026 banner, so it won’t be at every multiplex — check listings. Certificate still pending; the subject matter is handled without graphic detail, but the emotional weight is adult.
