What to expect
Single mother Natsuki is broke, hunted by debt collectors, and dragging two kids through Tokyo when a chance glimpse of a drug deal pulls her in. She picks up a volunteer bodyguard — a lonely MMA fighter named Tamae — and the two start working the trade together, until a student’s death derails everything. At 124 minutes, Eiji Uchida’s follow-up to *Midnight Swan* never feels in a hurry. The camera sits close on Kitagawa Keiko’s bare, exhausted face and on Morita Mio’s coiled physical stillness, letting the partnership build through small looks rather than speeches. There is no glamour to the violence and no neat redemption, but the movie finds its charge in how quickly care can appear between people who have nothing left to lose.
