What it is about
Lü Dongbin is a young idealist with something to prove. Zhongli Quan is a seasoned con man out for himself. Together with six more misfits, they set out to pull off the wildest heist anyone's ever attempted: pose as Immortals and empty the heavenly vault. Nothing, of course, goes according to plan. Inspired by the beloved Chinese legend, “All Wishes Come True!” opens in theatres August 20, 2026.
What to expect
A Mandarin-dubbed version of the heist-comedy that turns the Eight Immortals into a crew of schemers trying to empty the heavenly vault. Lü Dongbin is the earnest one; Zhongli Quan is the cynic who has done this before. The setup is a con, and the movie plays it for slapstick and martial-arts set pieces rather than reverence. It is rated IIA, runs 143 minutes, and opens 19 August 2026 across 13 cinemas in 12 districts, with 61 screenings in the coming week. Cheapest ticket is HK$65. English and Chinese subtitles are available; check individual listings for which sessions carry them.

What viewers said
Unlike with Greek or Roman mythology where immortality involved springing fully armed from your dad's head or emerging from a spume of sea foam, Chinese folks readily mixed with their gods and there was an intermediate level between them and the plebs where immortality could be conferred upon the worthy.
