What it is about
Made in Hong Kong opens with the voice of Moon, the young protagonist of the story, explaining to the viewers what his destiny is already certain to be: he has dropped out of school and become a part of the local small-time underworld. As the movie shows, there is no way out for young people in Hong Kong.
What to expect
Fruit Chan’s 1997 feature returns in a restored print under the bc30 banner. Sam Lee Chan-sam plays Moon, a dropout drifting through triad errands, and the opening voice-over lays out the dead end he already knows is coming. The 109-minute cut carries a IIB certificate and screens with English and Chinese subtitles. It is a limited engagement, opening 17 September.
