What it is about

What to expect
Maha Harada’s first feature, adapted from her own short story, follows a museum attendant whose days are spent in a gallery of Mark Rothko paintings. After her father dies alone, a birthday package he posted a month earlier arrives with a key inside, and she sets out to reconstruct the last stretch of his life. The movie is shaped by Yu Aoi’s watchful stillness and Issey Ogata’s presence as the father seen in retrospect; the pleasure, if it lands, is in the accumulation of small, unhurried moments rather than in any dramatic turn. The Hong Kong run is a single HKAFF slot — one screening in the next seven days, one cinema, one district — so it will disappear fast. Tickets start at HK$100. 94 minutes, Japanese with English subtitles.
