What it is about
In the year 1999, a young woman leaves her quaint seaside house and returns to the city, leaving in the mailbox a card for the next owner, with instructions to forward any mail of hers to the new address. In the year 1997, a jaded young architect moves into the same house and finds the letter. His reply, which he slips into the mailbox, finds its way to her, beginning a parallel-time love story separated by a span of two years.
What to expect
Lee Hyun-seung's 2000 romance hinges on a single, elegant device: a mailbox that connects 1997 and 1999. Lee Jung-jae and Jun Ji-hyun play the architect and the voice actor who begin writing to each other from the same seaside house, two years apart. The movie never bothers to explain the time slip; it simply watches the loneliness lift as the letters accumulate, and the ache set in when the gap between their calendars proves harder to bridge than either expected. The 96 minutes are carried by the leads' rapport and a damp, overcast palette that makes the coastal setting feel like a place where ordinary rules might quietly dissolve. The Hong Kong release is set for 17 September 2026, carrying a IIB certificate and English subtitles. It is likely to screen in a limited number of venues rather than every multiplex, so checking listings ahead of time is sensible.
