The verdict

There are not yet enough audience votes to give this a reliable score. It is not currently playing in Hong Kong cinemas. 95 minutes.

What it is about

In a family of undertakers, two sisters and a brother reunite for their mother's funeral. With the staff on strike, they must carry out the funeral arrangements themselves. How will they agree on how to cremate Mom?

What to expect

Three siblings who grew up in the family funeral business have to bury their mother without any staff — the workers have walked out. What follows is 95 minutes of bickering, logistics, and the kind of practical problem-solving that reveals exactly how little these people have dealt with each other over the years. Albert Dupontel directs and also appears in the cast, keeping the tone matter-of-fact rather than sentimental; the comedy comes from deadpan absurdity, not punchlines. The movie is part of the French Cinepanorama 2026 lineup, opening in Hong Kong on 10 October, which means a limited arthouse run rather than a wide multiplex release. French dialogue, English subtitles. The funeral-home setting and blunt treatment of death make it a non-starter for young viewers, but it is a dry, contained watch for anyone who likes family dysfunction served without a side of redemption.
