What it is about
Part 2 : During the Second World War, General de Gaulle seeks to establish himself as the representative of the “France Libre”. He continues his political struggle, notably against General Giraud in French Africa, whilst maintaining a strained relationship with the American President,
Franklin Delano Roosevelt. In the midst of the war, the General seeks to assist the French Resistance, maintaining regular contact with Jean Moulin, right up until the Liberation of Paris.
What to expect
The second part of Antonin Baudry's De Gaulle series covers the general's political campaign to lead the Free French, his rivalry with General Giraud in Africa, and his strained dealings with Roosevelt, through to the Liberation of Paris. At 157 minutes, it is a talk-heavy historical drama that relies on negotiation and strategy rather than battlefield spectacle. Simon Abkarian leads a cast that includes Niels Schneider, Thierry Lhermitte, Karim Leklou, Félix Kysyl, and Anamaria Vartolomei. The movie is in French with English subtitles. It carries an FCP 2026 certificate, so there are no age restrictions, though younger children are unlikely to sit through the runtime. It opens across Hong Kong on 10 October, with multiple showtimes daily. Viewers on the site currently give it 7.8 out of 10 from 198 votes.

What viewers said
With Darlan having been assassinated, and with the Nazis now firmly in control of Paris, Charles De Gaulle (Simon Abkarian) is operating out of a London in which he feels increasingly sidelined and imprisoned. Churchill (Sir Simon Russell Beale) is trying to coax him down a more acquiescing path with new military leader General Giraud (Thierry Lhermitte) whilst the distant President Roosevelt (Campbell Scott) is determined to see him marginalised.
