The verdict

There are not yet enough audience votes to give this a reliable score. It is not currently playing in Hong Kong cinemas. 125 minutes.

What it is about

Pierre, a young Belgian soldier, wants to prove himself on the battlefield during the First World War. Behind the frontlines, he meets Francis, who is asked to find a way to boost morale.

What to expect

Lukas Dhont’s latest keeps the camera tight on faces and bodies, not battlefields. Pierre wants to be useful in a war that mostly asks him to wait; Francis is tasked with manufacturing cheer for exhausted men. The movie runs 125 minutes and spends that time on the small humiliations and tendernesses that pass between them — a glance held too long, a silence that says more than the mission brief. Emmanuel Macchia and Valentin Campagne carry the weight without much dialogue. The French-language track screens with English and Chinese subtitles. It opens in Hong Kong on 17 September 2026. No certificate has been published, but the material is emotionally adult rather than violent. Check listings for venues — this is not a wide multiplex filler.
