What to expect

Seven years of filming across ten cities went into this documentary about Ani Choying Drolma, a Nepalese nun whose singing voice took her far beyond the monastery. The movie traces her path from a childhood decision to escape an arranged future, through the founding of a school for girls, to a late pilgrimage to Yushu in Qinghai where she tries to make peace with the memory of her father. It won Best Asia Pacific Movie and the Audience Award at Warsaw in 2023, plus Best Documentary Feature and Best Music/Sound at the China Documentary Academy Awards. The 95-minute runtime carries a Category I certificate, so it is open to all ages. Hong Kong release is November 29, 2024.
