The verdict

There are not yet enough audience votes to give this a reliable score. It is playing 2 times at 1 cinema across 1 district, from HK$120. The cheapest seat is at Broadway Cinematheque in Yau Ma Tei, HK$120. Category III · 154 minutes.

What it is about

A fatalistic car crash in Mexico city sets off a chain of events in the lives of three people: a supermodel, a young man wanting to run off with his sister-in-law, and a homeless man. Their lives are catapulted into unforeseen situations instigated by the seemingly inconsequential destiny of a dog.

What to expect

Iñárritu’s feature debut runs 154 minutes and earns its Category III rating through bursts of dog-fighting violence and a bruising car crash that opens the story. The three-way narrative — a model, a teenager in love with his brother’s wife, and a vagrant who works as a hitman — is held together by the accident and by the animals each character is tethered to. The structure is tight, but the movie’s weight comes from how long it sits inside each life before the timelines collide. Gael García Bernal, Emilio Echevarría, and Goya Toledo play it straight, never softening the desperation. This 30th-anniversary screening is in Spanish with English subtitles, opening in Hong Kong on 17 September 2026. The length and the rating mean it is an adults-only sit, and the limited run suggests booking ahead.
