The entity taking the shape of what the boys desire most—each other—is a devastatingly poetic metaphor. Tyson Perkins’ gorgeous, bleak cinematography of rural Australia makes every frame feel loaded with dread. It’s atmospheric, deeply romantic, and utterly heartbreaking.
